Research Shows that Overhauling IT Gives Enterprises the Advantage

"IT Transformation can result in bottom-line benefits that drive business differentiation, innovation, and growth" according to research recently conducted by Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) and announced by Dell EMC.  This study aimed to evaluate how today's enterprises are using technology, how they are using it, and the effects they are seeing.  The report developed these conclusions:

Many enterprises are finding it necessary to evaluate their storage and processing needs, even so far as considering upgrading mission-critical systems to hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI).  However, Dell EMC says "Not so fast".  While they encourage transition of workloads to HCI, the technologies aren't quite ready for critical systems.  However, the end of 2018 will bring updates to the tech that means that HCI and more traditional architectures should align.

Big Data and its Need for Storage

As information becomes digital more and more large companies are facing an increasing need to manage their Big Data needs with adaptable storage.  What's taking up all their storage?  Written records, customer service calls, IoT information, and other industry-specific information.  For example, insurance giant IAG managed 80TB last year but now it's managing 2PB and that data store is growing by 14TB a month.  All of this data falls under what the industry calls "volume, variety, and velocity" of data.
